Lassa fever
Lassa fever is an acute viral illness caused by Lassa virus, a member of the arenavirus family. It is known to be endemic in several West African countries, including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. According to the World Health Organization, there is currently no antiviral drug approved for Lassa fever.
LHF-535
LHF-535 is an investigational small-molecule antiviral, taken by mouth, that is being developed for the potential treatment of Lassa fever. It was originally developed by Kineta, Inc. In 2025, Philanthropos Therapeutics acquired the LHF-535 program assets from Kineta.
LHF-535 has completed Phase 1 clinical studies in healthy adult volunteers (see, for example, ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03993704, sponsored by Kineta). Further clinical development will be required.
LHF-535 is an investigational drug. It has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any other regulatory authority, and its safety and effectiveness have not been established. Philanthropos Therapeutics is not currently recruiting participants for any clinical trial.
